Julie’s Priorities

Building a District Where People Can Live, Work, Belong, and Thrive

District 5 is diverse, resilient, and deeply community-rooted, yet too often overlooked. Julie’s priorities are grounded in lived experience, practical solutions, and a belief that local government should work for everyday people.

Priority One

Affordability for Working Families

A city only works if the people who serve it can afford to live in it. Rising costs for housing, groceries, utilities, and childcare are squeezing working families, seniors, and small business owners. Even union households and long-time residents are struggling to keep up.

Affordability is not a luxury; it’s the foundation of a healthy city.

Priority Two

Housing That Builds Community

Everyone deserves a safe, stable place to live, and growth should strengthen neighborhoods. District 5 is growing quickly, but housing, sidewalks, transit, and public infrastructure have not kept pace. Rising rents and limited options are pushing families, workers, and seniors out.

I support thoughtful density that brings vibrancy, safety, and local business activity. I also support mixed-income housing so neighborhoods remain inclusive and stable.

Priority Three

Compassionate Solutions to Homelessness and Public Safety

Compassion and safety go hand in hand. District 5 faces complex public safety concerns, including gun violence, trafficking, and visible crisis along key corridors. These challenges are deeply connected to housing instability, behavioral health gaps, and systemic failure.

I advocate:

  • Treating homelessness as a systems issue, requiring coordinated responses in housing, health, and prevention.
  • Setting clear safety standards so public spaces are safe for everyone.
  • Focusing attention and resources where District 5 needs them most, including high-impact corridors.

Being compassionate means acting, not accepting chaos or harm as inevitable.

District 5 needs accountable, experienced leadership. District 5 has too often received inconsistent attention and fewer resources, despite clear needs. District 5 deserves a councilmember who brings practical problem-solving experience in education, finance, and community work.
A leader who uses data and lived experience to guide decisions.

I will commit to:

  • Being a consistent advocate so District 5 gets its fair share of investments.
  • Centering voices of residents, workers, and community organizations in decision-making.

District 5 deserves leadership that shows up every time.

Priority Four

Bolster Protections for Our Immigrant Communities

Diversity makes cities stronger and more vibrant – and this includes our immigrant community. Right now immigrants face unprecedented challenges from federal actions, and we must come together to keep our community safe.

Our city must maintain its status as a Sanctuary City and not allow federal immigration attacks to separate families or unjustly harm people living in our communities.

City Councilors must be vocal on issues that impact the safety and well-being of our neighbors. We need intentional action that strengthens current programs and protections for workers of all identities and visa statuses.

I will build a District that works for everyone.

These priorities reflect a simple belief that Seattle is strongest when people can afford to live here, feel safe in their neighborhoods, and trust that their city sees them. District 5 deserves nothing less.
