Building a District Where People Can Live, Work, Belong, and Thrive
District 5 is diverse, resilient, and deeply community-rooted, yet too often overlooked by City Hall. My priorities are grounded in 30 years of lived experience in this district, practical solutions, and a belief that local government should work for everyday people.

A longtime Seattle City Council District 5 resident, educator, and civic leader
whose career spans more than three decades of strengthening public systems and expanding opportunity for diverse communities. An immigrant who built her life in North Seattle, Kang brings a grounded understanding of how policy decisions affect working families, immigrants, and small businesses.
Seattle District 5 residents received and can use their Democracy Vouchers to support Julie Kang.
For physical vouchers, assign the vouchers by completing each one with the eligible candidate’s name (“Julie Kang”), the date, and the resident’s signature. Democracy Vouchers may be returned directly to the candidate or mailed to the SEEC’s address on the envelope.
District 5 has too often received inconsistent attention and fewer resources, despite clear needs.
District 5 deserves leadership that shows up every time and focuses on the basics that make our neighborhoods work. These priorities reflect a simple belief that Seattle is strongest when people can afford to live here, feel safe in their neighborhoods, and trust that their city sees them. District 5 deserves nothing less.”
Julie brings practical problem-solving experience
With a proven track record in education, finance, and community work, we need a leader who relies on data, audits, and lived experience to guide decisions, rather than pure ideology. I will commit to:
- Being a consistent advocate so District 5 gets its fair share of basic infrastructure investments, from filling potholes to ensuring reliable utility services.
- Centering voices of residents, workers, and community organizations in decision-making.
